Michael Weston

Michael Weston has been an LIV Accredited Specialist in Family Law since 1999 and a Member of the Australian Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators since 1995. He is also a trained Collaborative Lawyer registered with the Law Institute of Victoria. Michael completed a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Melbourne in 1978 and was admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1979. After beginning his career as a sole practitioner in Blackburn South, he co-founded Perry Weston Lawyers in 1987 with John Perry (now retired).

Michael has extensive experience across all areas of family law, with particular expertise in complex financial disputes involving companies and trusts. In 2004, he became a member of Victoria Legal Aid’s panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers and has since represented the interests of children in family law proceedings for more than 15 years. Michael regularly appears at private mediations, informal roundtable conferences, and hearings before the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court.

In addition to his family law practice, Michael has worked extensively in liquor licensing, and the sale and purchase of hotels, motels, and businesses. Outside of work, he enjoys travelling, fine wine, improving his golf handicap, and spending quality time with his family.
